Maheshe is a shy female gorilla, because her mother died prematurely when she was still a baby. So she was an orphan at a young age.

You will often find her with Mivumbi, her older sister, who carried Maheshe on her back just after the death of Furaha.

Maheshe was very lucky to make it - she was so very little when she lost her mother. She is a blessing to the group and testament to the inherent strength of mountain gorillas.
